Correct or assign a local address

Use the Local Government Commission’s guidance to identify the council, then its official website to find the local address or road-naming contact. Councils notify LINZ; LINZ checks changes and maintains the national record, which LINZ Data Service publishes weekly.

Contact the city, district or unitary council responsible for the place; councils allocate or change local addresses and notify LINZ. If you do not know which council covers the location, use the Local Government Commission’s guidance and follow the ‘Identifying your Council’ link to the Stats NZ Geographic Boundary Viewer. That guidance identifies the council; it is not an address-correction service. Then use the council’s official website to find its address, property or road-naming contact route. LINZ checks notified changes against the national addressing standard and maintains the national record; LINZ Data Service publishes NZ Addresses weekly, so allow time for a local decision to appear in the national dataset.
